Tribal elders blamed for aiding offenders
JALALABAD (PAN): Some tribal elders in eastern Nangarhar province are trying to save the skin of criminals and thereby contribute to the rising crime graph, a National Directorate of Security (NDS) official said on Monday.
Nangarhar spy chief Maj. Gen. Gul Nabi Wardak told a meeting on peace and security that the tribal elders came to criminals’ rescue before the agency completed investigation of their cases.
“When a criminal is freed, he commits more crimes,” he said, urging tribal elders and influential figures not to interfere in NDS affairs and let the intelligence service punish them.
“We should choose respect for rule of law over everything else; tribal elders should stop rescuing offenders for the sake of peace and security,” Wardak added.
