GHAZNI CITY/PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Five armed militants have been killed in the Charkh district of central Logar province and three civilians injured in Ghazni, officials said on Tuesday.

Din Muhammad Darwish, the Logar governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants attacked a police post in the Darbar area of Charkh district last night.

During the ensuing clash that lasted an hour, five attackers were killed, he said, adding the rebels’ bodies were still lying at the scene of the firefight. Two policemen were slightly injured.

In other news, three civilians were wounded during a blast in the Qarabagh district of Ghazni province on Monday evening, the town’s administrative head said.

Fazlur Rahman Nazarwal said the bomb attached to a bicycle exploded near a vehicle of the Afghan Local Police (ALP). The security personnel escaped unhurt in the blast, but one of the wounded people is said to be in critical condition.

Also on Monday, two police officers were injured in a clash with the insurgents in the Moshaki area of Qarabagh, the district said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed killing 17 police officials during attacks in Logar and Ghazni. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters seized two posts in Charkh and killed six policemen.

Similarly, he claimed 11 police officials were killed in Ghazni. But local officials spurned Mujahid’s assertions as baseless.
