GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Six militants were killed and nearly a dozen others wounded during a clash with Afghan army troops in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.

The clash took place during a military operation codenamed Selab-II in the Lodyan area of Giro district on Tuesday night, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman said.

Nazifullah Sultani told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation lasted several hours and the troops and civilians suffered no casualties.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed five Afghan soldiers were killed and several others wounded during the clash.

Giro, which borders the Khairkot district of southeastern Paktia province, is 50 kilometers south of Ghazni City.

In southern Kandahar province, gunmen shot injured a policewoman and killed her son on Wednesday.

An official, who did not want to be named, said the policewoman was traveling on a motorcycle when she came under attack in the Ziarat area of Kandahar City.

Razia, who sustained bullet injuries, lost her son to the gun attack, he said, adding the attackers managed to flee.
