KABUL): As many as 34 suspected militants have been arrested during separate security operations in various provinces, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Thursday.
A statement from the ministry said the suspects were detained by Afghan troops during operations in Paktia, Kandahar, Helmand and Farah province.
It claimed 13 of the detainees possessed some documents containing intelligence information. They were held in the Nahr-i-Saraj district of Helmand along with hundreds of machine-gun bullets, bombs and some explosives.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the spy service, said an arms cache belonging to militants was discovered during an operation in an area between Khashrod and Chahar Barchak districts of Nimroz province.
The depot contained weapons, including a machinegun with 32 boxes of bullets, six boxes of heavy machinegun bullets and some military equipment.
The NDS statement also said two “heavy bombs” planted on a road in Zaranj were found and neutralised.
