GHAZNI CITY (PAN-designated district chief was among 10 insurgents killed during a clash in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Friday.

Mullah Dur Mohammad, the Taliban chief for Aab Band district, was killed a day earlier during a clash in Giru town, the Andar district administrative head told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohammad Qasim Desiwal said the Afghan Local Police (ALP) and public uprising leaders were conducting a joint operation to flush out the militants from Giru.

Parcha, Mata Khan, Shelley and Khashrat villages have been cleared of fighters. The governor’s spokesman, Shafiq Nang, verified Desiwal’s view.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the claim as baseless, saying the militants had killed at least four policemen during the Giru encounter.
