JALALABAD (PAN insurgents in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, authorities said.
Mohammad Zaman, the CSO head for Chaparhar district, was gunned down after he left office for home in Gharabad area around 1pm, the district administrative chief, Mohammad Sadiq Dawlatzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said Zaman was in a car on his way home in Surkh Rud district, but armed militants caught him and shot him to death.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the killing of Zaman.
Elsewhere in Nangarhar, one civilian was killed and another wounded when militants opened fire at their car in Batikot district early on Monday.
The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, confirmed the incident, but had no details. He said three militants were arrested along with explosives the district on Sunday.
He said Afghan forces had launched operations in a number of districts and had so far defused 10 roadside bombs.
