HERAT CITY (PAN): Security forces discovered a depot of explosive and arrested an individual in this connection in the Guzra district of Herat province, an official said on Wednesday.

Nisar Ahmad Popal, the district chief, told reports the explosives were seized from a shop in the Sar Jangal area of Guzra. The explosives were to be used in bomb-making and other insurgent activities, he claimed.

He said the security personnel had seized 12 packets of explosives, 17 hand grenades along with fuses and ammonium nitrate. A fake identity card of security forces and four kilograms of hashish were also recovered.

Lying 15 kilometres east of Herat City, the Guzra district has an ISAF base, the UNAMA office, a police training centre, an airport and an industrial park are located.
