Hekmatyar’s brother-in-law detained

KUNDUZ CITY (PAN Sahib district of northwestern Kunduz province, an official said on Thursday.

Salahuddin Hekmatyar was detained along with a bodyguard in Gul Tepa area late on Wednesday, police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the two were travelling in a car that was intercepted by Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel at a check-post. “They tried to escape by crushing to death an ALP member,” he added.

As an elderly shopkeeper tried to stop the car, Salahuddin shot the 65-year-old to death with his pistol. The ALP members chased the car and captured it in Gul Tepa, according to the police spokesman.

The district police chief, 1^st Lt Amanullah Ibrahimi, said two women were also travelling with Salahuddin in the car. All of them had been arrested, he said.
