Kerry to address symposium on Afghan women

WASHINGTON (PANinfo-icon): Ahead of the important Loya Jirgainfo-icon in Kabulinfo-icon, US Secretary of State John Kerry would deliver a major speech on Afghan womeninfo-icon’s situation in Washington, an announcement said.

Kerry would be joined by his predecessor Hillary Rodham Clinton and ex-first lady Laura Bush during a symposium at the prestigious Georgetown University at on November 15, said a statement from the State Department.

Opportunities and solutions for sustaining the significant progress Afghan women and girls have made over the past 10 years with be the main topic of discussion.

The event on “Advancing Afghan Women: Promoting Peace and Progress in Afghanistaninfo-icon” will also focus on how to work together with Afghans to protect and expand such progress.

It will be co-sponsored by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, the George W Bush Institute, the US Afghan Women’s Council and the US Alliance in Support of the Afghan People.

USAIDinfo-icon Administrator Rajiv Shah will also speak at the symposium. In addition, international officials and representatives from the US and Afghan governments and civil societyinfo-icon will attend the event.
