KABUL minister and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) chief on Thursday voiced their grief over the demise of famous poet and writer Nasrullah Hafiz.

The writer’s death would create a hard-to-fill vacuum in the Pashto literature, they said in separate condolence messages. The literary figured died after a brief ailment at 82 years of age.

Education Minister Ghulam Farooq Wardak said Hafiz had served the Pashto literature for decades. He had authored several books on various subjects.

Hafiz projected multiple problems facing the country in his poetry and prose, Wardak said, adding his death had deprived Afghanistan of a noted personality who would be long remembered.

“I pray to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude,” Wardak said.

IDLG head Abdul Khaliq Farahi also acknowledged Hafiz had served the nation through his writings and contributed to the nation-building enterprise. “I equally share the grief of his family.”
