KABUL T20 Qualifiers match that began on Friday in the UAE, an official said.

Along with Scotland, Afghanistan are placed together with the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Kenya and Bermuda in Group B of the qualifiers.

Similarly, Ireland, Canada, the UAE, Namibia, Hong Kong, Uganda, the USA and Italy make up Group A. The top six teams of the qualifiers will secure berth in the finals to be held in 2014 in Bangladesh.

Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News after winning the toss, the home side decided to bat, posting a target of 172 run for the loss of six wickets, with notable contribution coming from Mohammad Nabi Issakhel, who smashed 46 runs.

Another major contributor was Mohammad Shehzad with 42 runs, while Shinwari smashed 31 runs and Nawroz Mangal 20.

Chasing the target, the Scots were restricted to 153 runs in the stipulated overs, with four wickets to spare.

Shahpur Zadran took two wickets for Afghanistan and Samiullah Shinwari and Daulat Zadran one scalp each, according to Hotak, who said it was Afghanistan’s first victory in the qualifiers a day after defeated by Holland.

In today’s matches, Ireland, Italy, Nepal, Hong Kong and PNG registered victories.
