KABUL on the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US.

The Jirga is expected to take place on Thursday, featuring nearly 3,000 tribal elders, public representatives and government high-ups. It will advise the government on whether or not the security deal should be signed.

At a media briefing in Kabul, Siddique Siddiqui said the ministry had taken effective steps with cooperation from the Afghan army and the National Directorate of Security to hold the jirga in peaceful environment.

Siddiqui said nothing regarding the number of ecurity personnel to be deployed at the venue, saying all relevant state organs were working together to create the right environment for the tribal assembly.

He insisted there were security impediments to the jirga as security institutions were working in tandem to ensure no untoward situation arose.
