GARDEZ (PAN): Ten small projects have been inaugurated in the capital of southeastern Paktia province, Gardez, under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP), officials said on Sunday.
Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development official Eng. Nazir Mangal told Pajhwok Afghan News that the schemes had been implemented in Gardez and adjacent areas.
The projects included five guesthouses, streets’ pavement, bridges, culverts and irrigation canals, he said, adding the schemes had been executed in line with the local councils’ demand.
Benefitting nearly 1,800 families, the development projects cost around three million afghanis, according to Mangal. Locals said they were happy with NSP activities as the new projects would help resolve some of their problems.
Noor Rahman, who lives in the Skakarkhel area on the outskirts of Gardez, said: “We are happy with the works done by NSP, which has been focusing on villages.”
However, he said the existing projects had not been enough and more such development plans were required to be initiated in the area by the NSP or other government organisations.
Provincial rural development department officials said a second round of projects would be initiated next year in Gardez and nearby districts under the programme, which had been extended to most villages of the province.
