CHAGHCHARAN (PAN rejected the assertion as untrue.

Provincial police chief, Col. Dilawar Shah Dilawar, told Pajhwok Afghan News during the past two days a group of more than 100 militants stormed a police check post in Charsada district, which was repulsed by his forces.

Four insurgents were killed and three others injured during this gunbattle, he added.

Similarly, in another incident, he said security forces had killed four militants and recovered arms in the Sad Barg area of Pasaband district. Bodies of the insurgents had been dispatched to their relatives, he noted.

However, Taliban’s spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said heavy casualties had been inflicted on government forces. He acknowledged the loss of only two militants in the clashes.

The Ghor police chief said Mullah Ahmad Shah, the Taliban-designated deputy governor for Charsada district, had been heading the group. A group of Pakistani fighters had visited Sartaila area and registered Taliban and disbursed arms to them, he added.

Faryab Governor Muhammadullah Batash said he had reports that a group of Pakistani insurgents had visited Ghormach district to distribute arms to militants to sabotage the Almar dam project.
