TIRINKOT (PAN): The provincial council chief said he was briefly detained by police on Sunday when he visited Deh Rawud district to distribute state land in the central Uruzgan province.
Amanullah Hotaki, the provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News he had an authorisation letter with him for distribution of state land, but some locals started reasoning with him.
After a verbal brawl with locals, police arrived at the scene, bundled him into a car and took him to the police chief, Hotaki added. The Uruzgan police chief, Matiullah Khan, had personal grievances with him which caused his detention, he claimed.
Former provincial council chief, Ibrahim Akhundzada, also confirmed the police chief had personal grievances with Hotaki.
But district police chief, Muhammad, said Hotaki was trying to distribute state land to his tribesmen on his own behalf. Hotaki did not show them any government letter, he said, adding he was released after brief detention.
