KABUL Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE, an official said on Wednesday.
Afghanistan, which earlier defeated Scotland and Papua New Guinea (PNG) in a rain-reduced match, chose to field against Bermuda after winning the toss, said Farid Hotak, a spokesman for the game’s regularity authority.
Bermuda set Afghanistan a target of 102 runs for the loss of all wickets in the 18th over. Samiullah Shinwari emerged the top wickets-taker with three, while Mohammad Nabi Issakhel, Karim Sadiq and Shahpur Zadran shared two scalps each.
Hotak said the side easily chased the target in the 10th over for the loss of two wickets, thanks to Shehzad Mohammad’s unbeaten 60 quick runs, which included two sixes. Issakhel also played a crucial role in snatching the victory, smashing three huge sixes in his 33 runs innings.
The victory against Bermuda took Afghanistan to the third position in the group B, where they have been placed together with the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Scotland and Bermuda.
Ireland, Canada, the UAE, Namibia, Hong Kong, Uganda, the USA and Italy make up Group A. The top six teams of the qualifiers will secure berth in the finals to be held in March next year in Bangladesh.
