KABUL): Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Wais Ahmad Barmak on Wednesday condemned the abduction and subsequent killing of Eng. Shafiq Ahmad Alamyar, rural rehabilitation and development director for northern Kunduz province.

The director was kidnapped while travelling to his office in Kunduz centre 11 days ago and his found was found in the Borka district of Kunduz last evening. The minister called his Eng. Shafiq’s slaying as a big loss to the ministry.

Eng. Shafiq was a dedicated and professional staff member of the MRRD, working for the improvement of socio-economic conditions of the most needy and ordinary Afghans in rural communities, particularly in Kunduz province, Barmak said.

“MRRD is committed to pursuing development interventions in villages and such a merciless act will never deter our aim and goal to deliver services to the needy people in rural communities,” the statement added.

“We call on the authorities to bring the murderers of Eng. Shafiq to justice and protect the lives of those who continue to work for bringing prosperity and development to the Afghans.”
