KABUL to pass the security deal with the US because Kabul needed a strong ally under the present circumstances.
The tribal gathering that began earlier in the day discussed the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) text throughout the day. About 2,500 tribal elders and government officials are taking part in the gathering.
The deal, if signed, will allow thousands of American and other foreign troops to stay in Afghanistan until 2024.
Sultanzoy, who was added to the final list of presidential hopefuls by the electoral watchdog two days ago, said singing the deal was in the larger interest of Afghanistan.
He believed Kabul needed a strong ally like Washington to maintain peace, stability and strengthen economy with cooperation from the US.
He said that the US presence could ensure peace and stability in the war-torn country and a stable Afghanistan was crucial to regional stability.
Sultanzoy insisted giving the US soldiers legal immunity did not mean selling out the country.
Meanwhile, another presidential hopeful, Qutbuddin Hilal, told Pajhwok Afghan News any decision that came from the majority of countrymen could certainly be in the interest of the country.
He said more than 2,500 tribal chieftains and academicians attending the Loya Jirga would not make any decision against the national interest.
