TALOQAN (PAN): A bomb blast killed a provincial council member and injured two of his bodyguards in northern Takhar province on Sunday, an official said.
Qari Mohammad Khal was killed when a bomb attached to his car went off around 11:30am on his way to Taloqan, police chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Anan Qatghani said.
The public representative succumbed to his injuries in hospital, where he was rushed along with the two injured guards.
Najibullah Khaliqyar, another member of Takhar provincial council, said Khal was a jihadi leader affiliated with Junbish-i-Milli Islami, led by Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum.
Khal, who headed the Takhar front during the jihad, was a second former Junbish commander to be killed in as many days.
Syed Najibullah, a former Junbish commander, was killed in northern Faryab province late on Saturday, the town’s administrative head said.
