KABUL): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) on Wednesday strongly condemned what it called the deliberate killing of six humanitarian workers in a gun attack in northwestern Faryab province.

Police said the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) staffers were gunned down six kilometres from Maimana, the provincial capital.

The MRRD in a statement said the victims had been working on a literacy project and the National Solidarity Programme (NSP for the ACTED, one of the MRRD facilitating partners.
The ministry said the gun attack came a day after three civilians, working for NSP shuras (CDC), were killed in a planted remote-controlled explosive device strike in Dehrawud district of central Uruzgan province.
“The MRRD has repeatedly condemned attacks that deliberately target civilian workers who deliver services to the ordinary rural Afghans communities.”
The statement quoted MRRD Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak as saying: “I was shocked and saddened by this despicable merciless killing of Afghan civilian workers, who were serving the neediest people in
rural villages. The attack has no justification and is unacceptable under any terms and laws.”
The ministry said it had repeatedly called on officials, local people and the parties concerned to take necessary measures for protecting civilians and those delivering services to ordinary Afghan
villagers.
