KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Three armed robbers were killed in a clash with Afghan security forces in northeastern Kunduz province on Saturday, an official said.
The robbers stopped a passengers’ car in Chahartot area of Khanabad district to rob passengers of their cash and valuables. Deployed in the area, the security forces rushed to the scene and exchanged gun fire with the dacoits, leaving three robbers dead on the spot, provincial police chief said.
Col. Ibadullah Talwar told Pajhwok Afghan News more than 2,000 armed robbers harass passengers on Khanabad- Alibad highway, creating problems for the commuters.
Khanabad district chief, Hayatullah Amiri, said the dead robbers included notorious Qand Agha, Sher Ahmad and Raqib, adding their bodies were laying on the scene along with their weapons.
A policeman and a passenger were also injured during the gun battle, Amiri added.
However, Faridoon, a passenger, said driver of the car was killed by robbers as he did not stop the car, adding that passengers of six cars were robbed of their cash and cell phones.
In a while, police arrived at the scene and gunned down the three dacoits after exchange of gun fire.
The passengers on the route continued experiencing similar problems who demanded the authorities concerned to establish more check posts to secure the vital highway.
