KABUL, a report said.

Quoting sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the media reports in Pakistan said the two diplomats discussed relations between the two countries and also talked about the Afghan peace process.

A day earlier, diplomatic sources in Washington said Dobbins was due to travel to Afghanistan to discuss with Afghan officials the latest row over the controversial bilateral security deal between the two countries.

However, US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters she had no information about Dobbins’ trip.

Last week, a Loya Jirga approved the security agreement with the US after a three-day discussion and asked President Karzai to sign it within next six or seven weeks.

But Karzai refused to sign the US troop status accord as long as his conditions of peaceful elections, end to raids on Afghan homes and the arrangement of formal talks with the Taliban were not met.

Earlier reports in the US media claimed some members of the Karzai cabinet had opposed the president’s refusal to sign the deal.

A New York Times report said only presidential advisor Aimal Faizi and Karzai office head Karim Khurram were supporting the presidential stance.
