JALALABAD (PAN): Four militants have been killed and nine others, including four police officials injured when insurgents stormed a police check post in Haska Mena district of the eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Thursday.
Col. Mohammad Ayub Hassan Khail, border police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News a group of insurgents mounted attack on the border police check post, which was repulsed by his forces with the killing of four militants and wounding of five others.
Four border police were wounded during the hours’ long gun battle, he said, adding that militants fled the scene, leaving behind their injured colleagues and dead.
Sahar Gul, a local of the district, said Taliban attacked the police post at around 11:00pm.
He said the fire fight continued till 3:00 am which left eight militants dead but he had no information about casualties of security forces.
Haska Mena is the border district of Nangarhar province which had witnessed a number of attacks by militants.
Residents said Pakistani militants had established their sanctuaries in the district and had been staging attacks on security forces daily.
