SHARAN (PAN): The Afghan Local Police (ALP) had been playing active role to ensure peace in southeastern Paktika province and deployment of more ALP officials would further bolster the security of the volatile region, a officials said.

Col. Dawlat Khan Zadran, provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that ALP officials were deployed in eight districts of the province where security had been improved considerably.

The provincial government had extended a request to the Ministry of Interior for recruitment of more ALP officials to be deployed in rest of the districts, he informed.

After the deployment of ALP, around 70% security of the province had been improved, he said, adding that the ALP had brought the insecure areas under its control.

Azizullah Karwan, the ALP chief, said local police force had been deployed following requests by local people.

Earlier, highways were insecure and armed people were creating problems and harassing commuters, he said, adding most of the areas had been purged of armed groups and anti-social elements.
