NDI team shares ideas with poll bodies on April vote
KABUL (PAN): A National Democratic Institute (NDI) delegation has proposed several recommendations to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on how to hold the next year’s elections transparent, free and nation-wide.
The delegation has reportedly asked the IEC and the Independent Election Complaints Commission (IECC) to launch awareness programmes in the lead-up to the April vote to ensure a satisfactory turnout.
The IEC has been asked by the NDI team to make efforts at overcoming the trust deficit between it and the people in order to pave the ground for equal participation of people across the country in the election process.
The institute has urged the IEC to keep the nation updated on its activities, anti-fraud efforts, security, government interferences and its procedure to win the people’s trust on the process.
The deletion visited a number of high-ranking government and civil society representatives during a week-long stay in Kabul.
The delegates also met with President Hamid Karzai, presidential and provincial council candidates, IEC, IECC official, security officials, youth and media representatives.
