TALOQAN (PAN): Policemen shot dead three alleged drug smugglers in northeastern Takhar province on the border with Tajikistan, an official said on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Dasht-i-Qala district on Tuesday, when the smugglers, after passing some police checkpoints, attempted to cross the border with 11 kilograms of narcotics into Tajikistan.
Sunatullah Taimor, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News border police guards opened fire at the three and shot them dead.
Earlier this year, Tajik border guards opened fire at a group of Afghan drug smugglers, killing two and injuring four of them. The remaining reportedly managed to flee back to Afghanistan.
Also on Tuesday night, police raided a house in Ortobur area on the outskirts of Taloqan, the provincial capital, arresting four alleged drug smugglers, according to Taimor.
He claimed 66 kilograms of narcotics were recovered from the house after arresting the four smugglers and the house’s owner.
