KABUL): The Russian defence minister has said his country will train Afghan National Army (ANA) combat engineers on efficient mine clearance.
The news agency RIA Novosti quoted Sergei Shoigu as saying: “We are working on the creation of a training centre to prepare sappers for mine sweeping in Afghanistan.”
The minister told university students in Moscow on Wednesday the training programme would be implemented through interpreters speaking dialects commonly used in Afghanistan.
Russia has supplied the ANA and other Afghan security forces with Kalashnikovs and Mi-17 military transport helicopters, assisting the country in counter-narcotics and border security.
