TIRINKOT (PAN): Nearly a dozen students were injured as a result of a seminary fire in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, on Sunday.
Dr Yad Wali of the Uruzgan Civil Hospital confirmed receiving 11 injured students from the religious school, where the fire was caused by a gas cylinder at 12.00 noon.
He said the students with burn injuries — aged 5-12 years — were under treatment. Three of the children were in critical condition, he added.
Abdullah Himmat, the governor’s spokesman, linked the incident to the school administration’s negligence. He said most of the injured were in stable condition.
Student Ahmadullah, who suffered injuries to his face, told Pajhwok Afghan News his room caught fire from the gas cylinder while he was warming food during the lunch break.
