KABUL): The Afghan spy service on Tuesday claimed foiling a suicide attack on the governor of eastern Nangarhar province.
Intelligence agents had detained a four-member group of bombers with explosives, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.
The men, who had skillfully concealed the explosives in computers and mobile phone sets, plotted to assassinate Governor Attaullah Ludin, a statement from NDS said.
Identified as Irfan, Naqibullah, Gul Mohammad and Faqirullah, the detainees are Nangarhar residents, who received technical education.
According to the intelligence agency, Taliban commander Qari Suleman had sent the explosives for a terrorist strike in Nangarhar.
But Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, the governor’s spokesman, said he was unaware of the arrests. No security organ had so far provided them with information in this regard, he added.
