Young woman found hanged in JawzjanBy Tamkin Dec 24, 2013 - 12:06
SHIBERGHAN (PAN): The body of a young woman has been found in the Muradyan district of northern Jawzjan province, where 24 females were killed in 2013, officials said on Tuesday.
Crime branch chief, Cap. Abdul Latif, quoted the victim’s father as saying his daughter was feeling tired and unwilling to weave carpets -- a job she did 14 hours a day.
Suffering from a mental problem, Ordi (18) reportedly hanged herself inside her house, the police officer told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A doctor on duty in Qush Tepa district, Najibullah, confirmed receiving the girl’s body that had no signs of torture. Strangulation appeared to be the cause of her death, he said.
But the incident fuelled concerns among human rights activists. The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) office head, Maghfirat Samimi, said nobody was ready to end his/her life without reason.
He added such incidents resulted from domestic violence, urging the authorities to conduct a thoroughgoing investigation into the incident.
Samimi said 24 women and girls across the province had lost their lives to such incidents in 2013, compared with 20 in 2012.
