PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Six people were killed and 13 others wounded in an explosion in Pul-I-Alam, the capital of central Logar province, on Wednesday, an official said.

The incident took place in the afternoon when an explosives-rigged bicycle went off in front of the Afghan Red Crescent Society office, leaving four civilians and two policemen dead and more than a dozen others injured.

Logar police chief Brig Gen Mohammad Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the wounded were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. But he had no information about their condition.

Logar Civil Hospital Director Dr Ashiqullah confirmed receiving four dead and 13 injured civilians. He said the condition of two of the wounded was critical.

A shopkeeper in the area, Abdullah, said the heavy explosion shattered windowpanes in nearby houses and shook buildings. He feared the death toll might rise.

The site was cordoned off by security forces and no one was allowed to enter the area, he said, adding that several buildings had been damaged.

Elsewhere, one civilian was killed another wounded in a roadside bombing in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province.

The blast took place in the Janjal area of the district, where a civilian car struck the bomb, said the district chief, Sayed Rahman Mohmand. He added one civilian was killed and two others seriously wounded.
