Afghanistan A clean-sweep 3 matches series

JALALABAD (PAN-A cricket team cruised to a five-wicket win over touring Tajikistan, claiming the series 3-0 at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan International Cricket Stadium in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.

Both sides had previously played two one-day matches at the same venue in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, with Afghanistan-A winning both.

It was a twenty-20 encounter between the sides. Afghanistan Cricket Board’s spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the visitors chose to bat after winning the toss.

They set the Afghan-A team a 138 runs target for the loss of six wickets. For Tajikistan, Murad Ali played a brilliant innings, scoring 86 runs. For Afghanistan, Yamin Ahmadzai took two wickets.

Hotak said the A team easily chased the target in the 16th over for the loss of five wickets, with Shafique Shinwari and Javed Ahmadi contributing 74 and 36 runs respectively. For Tajikistan, Ahmad Shah took three wickets.

Shafiqullah was declared the man of the match, while Javed Ahmadi won the title of the man of the series.

The award-giving ceremony was attended by ACB chairman Shahzada Massoud, Nangarhar deputy governor Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal and other senior officials and tribal elders.

Tajikistan Cricket Federation deputy chief Asmat told Pajhwok Afghan News they were thankful to the ACB and all Afghans for the hospitality.

He said cricket had newly been introduced in Tajikistan and their players had learnt many things and gained experience in all departments of the game thanks to support the Afghans had extended to them.

The Afghanistan-A team captain, Javed Ahmadi, gifted the winning trophy to Tajikistan team.
