FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of protesters, including school students, teachers and religious scholars on Monday demanded the prompt arrest and prosecution of the killer of a boy in western Farah province.

Ahmad Javed, son of Anti-Terrorism Department Director Fazal Ahmad, was abducted last month by unidentified gunmen on his way to school. On Jan. 1 security forces found him dead in the Faizabad village of Pushtrod district.

There has been no claim of responsibility so far, but security forces have detained some suspects in connection with the boy’s kidnap-slaying.

Condemning the killing of the 12-year-old, more than 500 people staged a protest at the Mohammad Nadir Ayubi High School, where the student was enrolled.

Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar, a member of the provincial council, asked the authorities to arrest the killer as soon as possible, execute him publicly and make him an example for others.

School Principal Ali Ahmad Afzali said the education sector had no political agenda, guaranteeing a bright future for children. He also demanded the swift arrest of the killer.

Abdul Karim Shafiq, a relative of the victim, told Pajhwok Afghan News the abductors had tied Javed’s hands and legs before strangulated him to death.

Abdur Rahman Zhwandai, the governor spokesman, condemned the boy’s killing as an unforgiveable act, saying security forces had detained some suspects, who were under investigation.
