Karzai slams children’s use for suicide attacks

Karzai slams children’s use for suicide attacks

Jan 07, 2014 - 19:35

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday asked the Taliban to denounce the use of children for suicide attacks if the rebel movement was not involved in the incidents that negated Afghan values and Islamic teachings.

He denounced forcing innocent minors into conducting suicide bombings a day after a 10-year-old girl, forced by her brother into carrying out a suicide bombing, surrendered to police in southern Helmand province.

The girl turned in herself to the sixth border zone police in Khanshin district. Spogmai had been forced by her brother Zahir, a resident of Taghaz area, into conducting a suicide attack on border police.

In a statement from his office, the president directed the Ministry of Interior to reunite the girl with her family after getting concrete assurances about her safety in the presence of local elders.

Like other people of her age, Spogmai should live with her family under her parents’ care, he said, calling children architects of the country’s future. They should be loved and educated instead of being pushed into acts of terror, he observed.

Karzai asked the Taliban to raise their voice against such contemptible actions if they had no link to them. He urged the fighters to help the nation eradicate the menace of terror and rid itself of outsiders’ conspiracies.
