MAIMANA (PAN): An Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander was killed along with his two friends by a group of insurgents who entered his house in northern Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
The ALP commander, Nizam, was a former commander of the Junbish-i-Milli Afghanistan party led by Rashid Dostum, who is contesting the April presidential elections as one of Dr. Ashraf Ghani’s running mates.
A group of militants broke into Nizam’s house in the Koh-i-Sayaad area of Sherin Tagab district late on Monday night, killing him and his two friends, according Syed Sharif, the town’s acting administrative chief.
Sharif told Pajhwok Afghan News Nizam was a key Junbish commander in the past.
Samiullah, the district development council chief, said the Taliban had kidnapped Nizam’s son, but released him after the kidnappers were told they had abducted a guest, not his son.
He said if the Taliban knew they had kidnapped the ALP commander’s son, they would have killed him.
