PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A number of government departments in central Logar province owe million of afghanis in arrears to the power utility.

Eng. Nooruddin Stanikzai, the energy and water director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attorney office, court, Haj, martyrs, disabled and refugee departments were among the defaulters.

All departments had been formally reminded of their obligation to clear the bills but they did not deposit the arrears, he complained, saying the situation had created problems for the utility.

In addition to government institutions, electricity was being supplied to 1,300 families and main markets in Pul-i-Alam from 9:00am to 3:00pm and again from 5:00pm to 11:00pm, he added.

Mohammad Hashim Faizi, the deputy governor, acknowledged an amount of 3 million afghanis was payable by the governor’s house. He said efforts had been expedited to pay the arrears without further delay.
