KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Five more factories were inaugurated on Thursday in southern Kandahar province, taking the number of such entities at the industrial park to 86.

Established at a total cost of $1.5 million during one and a half year, the factories will produce PVC pipes, cotton, plastic tools and other goods.

Governor Toryalai Weesa, Mayor Mohammad Omar and other senior provincial government officials attended the inaugural ceremony.

Weesa hoped the new factories would help boost Afghanistan’s economy and urged Afghans to purchase locally produced goods in order to improve local industry and encourage investors.

He said Kandahar produced grapes and pomegranates and there was a great need for establishing factories to process the products.

Weesa called on the Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) to find market for Afghan products in foreign countries.
