Women’s role in elections underlined
During the inaugural ceremony for the organisation in the capital, Suraya Hashmi, the association head, underlined a proactive part for women in the ballot.
She urged the authorities to provide women with a level playing field and an environment free of fear and terror. The association would protect women’s right to vote, she promised.
Qari Matiullah Safi, a religious scholar, said it was a matter of satisfaction that the association had arranged such a gathering and demanded greater participation for themselves in elections.
Women had played a highly significant role in the past but their contribution to the nation-building enterprise had been ignored, he said, adding the government should use all resources to build religious institutions throughout the country.
