KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Gunmen looted 25 passengers’ vehicles on Kunduz-Dasht-e-Archi highway and deprived passengers of their cash and other valuables, locals said Monday.
For the last one year, armed groups were robbing travelers on Kunduz- Dasht-e-Archi highway of their money and other valuables.
Lal Mohammad, a teacher and resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was heading from his home district to Kunduz when the vehicle he was travelling stopped by gunmen, depriving him of 30,000 afghanis.
He urged the government should establish security check posts on the vital route to make the highway safe for travelling.
Local elders had held meetings with provincial governor and security commander who agreed to establish check posts on the highway but the pledge would yet materialize, he added.
Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, provincial police spokesman, acknowledged criminals and robbers had looted some passengers’ vehicles in Abadan area.
He said it was decided in a meeting attended by senior officials that security posts would be established on the Kunduz- Dasht-e-Archi road.
There were some check posts on the vital road but more check points were needed to be built to improve the security, he added.
