LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A 320-metre bridge, which was partially destroyed by Taliban insurgents with explosives, has been repaired in Greshk district of southern Helmand province, officials said on Saturday.
Deputy Public Works Minister Noor Gul Mangal, who inaugurated the bridge on the Kabul) had provided 60 million afghanis for repairing a 14-metre portion of the bridge.
He said the bridge’s reconstruction was important to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on the highway. A temporary iron bridge, placed on the damaged side, had been causing problems for drivers, he said, insisting quality work had been maintained during the reconstruction process.
Deputy Governor Ahmad Massoud told Pajhwok Afghan News the bridge’s reconstruction would enable residents of five provinces to travel on the route without any difficulty.
He called on Mangal to convey the message of Helmand people to President Karzai that they wanted reconstruction and development process to be intensified.
