KABUL’s interest, Interior Minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai on Saturday said Kabul and Washington should commence fresh negotiations at the earliest on resolving controversial points.
“President Karzai knows better than everyone the merits and demerits of the accord and he will sign it after some issues come clear,” Daudzai told a gathering attended by a number of provincial police chiefs in Kabul.
He suggested Kabul and Washington should appoint a high-level delegation to discuss signing of the agreement.
“Moral aspects of the security agreement cannot be resolved through the media. Both sides have to sit together for talks in order to reach a conclusion and steer the subject out of the confusion.”
Daudzai stressed fresh negotiations between the two countries on the agreement should be launched as soon as possible, saying Afghanistan did not want to return to the chaos and turmoil of the past. For this reason, he added Kabul wanted a continued friendship with the international community.
However, US officials say negotiations on the agreement had ended and it should be inked as soon as possible because US and NATO have to make plans for a post-2014 mission.
