JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Foundation stone for building of a large cold storage vegetables facility worth 160 million afghanis had been laid in Jalalabad, the capital city of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said Sunday.

Construction work was underway to build the facility in which vegetables would be kept fresh for long.

Eng. Mohammad Hussain Sapi, provincial agriculture department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the fund for the construction of the facility was provided from the development budget of the Agriculture Ministry.

The facility would be built on five acres area which would be completed in two years, he added.

Sapi said the storage would have the capacity to protect 5,000 metric tons of vegetables which would help resolve long standing problem of thousands of farmers.

Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal, deputy governor, said locals had expressed satisfaction over the construction of the facility.

He said it’s a great achievement of his government to facilitate the farmers community.

Ali Shah, a farmer, told the market of vegetable was badly affected due to lack of cold storage facilities in the province.
