Income tax revenue exceeds IMF projections

KABUL, an official said, accusing some foreign firms of unwilling to fill the returns due.

MTO Director Subhanallah Fahimi said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had projected this year’s revenue at 10.3 billion afghanis, but the amount had so far reached 10.6 billion afghanis, showing a 300 million afghanis increase.

He told a news conference in Kabul the Ministry of Finance (MoF)’s revenue had increased compared to the previous year.

The ministry’s income stood at 6.8 billion afghanis last year and increased to more than 10 billion afghanis this year, he added.

“These improvements have resulted from efforts by the ministry’s leadership, best management, law enforcement and computerization of office tasks,” he added.

He claimed some companies, including the Supreme group, ISAF and others had been refusing to fill income tax returns by claiming they were exempted.

He said some foreign companies had been exempted from taxes under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with them, but other companies refused to pay taxes without such arrangements with them.

“We would make sure that all companies are paying their taxes to stabilise the national exchequer,” he said.
