KABUL (Pajhwok): Security forces have detained 26 undocumented Afghan refugees along with more than a hundred local residents during an operation in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, reports said on Thursday.
The search operation that involved police, commando forces, sniffer dogs and bomb disposal officials, was carried out in Peshawar’s Karkhano Market area on Wednesday.
Around 139 people, including 26 Afghan refugees, were rounded up as the security forces searched several markets in the area, the reports said.
Officials said the Afghans arrested lacked legal stay documents.
The operation came a day before a five-kilogram bomb planted near an under-construction flyover was defused on the Charsadda road.
Disposal squad defused twice the explosive device fitted with a timer device after security forces cordoned off the area and launched a probe.
