JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Five boys, playing volleyball, were gunned down on Thursday in a suspected insurgent attack in eastern Laghman province, an official said.
The incident took place in the afternoon when a group of gunmen opened fire at the boys on a volleyball court in Sakhri area of Alingar district, killing five of them, the governor’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Suspecting insurgents behind the attack, he said the slain boys were school students and the attackers had come from a nearby village.
Governor Fazlullah Wahidi strongly condemned the incident as “inhuman and un-Islamic act.”
He said the enemies could not tolerate Afghanistan achievements, thus attacking players.
The incident comes three days after militants shot dead three boys playing football in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province.
