In addition, PAN has been a reliable and principal source of information for 300 Afghan media outlets on a wide range of subjects, including politics, society.
One overriding objective behind the new website is to enrich the insight into Afghanistan’s enormous mineral wealth and suggest ways of exploiting it to the country’s benefit.
It also gives profiles of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, a biography of the minister and his deputy, maps of mine sites, investment facilities, mining companies, contracts, the overall industry, exports, workers and geological surveys.
Fifty Pajhwok correspondents across Afghanistan regularly file reports on the country’s mining revenue, environmental effects, excavation, exports, smuggling and safety measures for miners. They also lend due projection to public perceptions of the mining process.
A five-member group of mentors is currently training reporters on enhancing their reporting skills and research capacity. On completing the training programme, the reporters will be given a variety of assignments.
Pajhwok also plans to arrange a national conference on challenges to the development of the mining sector and bring out a trilingual (Pashto, Persian and English) magazine focused on this vital sector of the economy.
