President returns home from Sochi

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai returned home from Russia after attending the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics in the coastal city of Sochi.

More than 40 heads of state, including United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, attended the event, a statement from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said.

The games were inaugurated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with athletes carrying the Olympic torch to Sochi. Karzai was accompanied by his foreign minister and security advisor.
