Afghans defeat Scots to boost U-19 WC hopes

KABUL Cup beginning on Friday, as excitement for the mega event has reached its peak.

Trained hard under the watchful eyes of their coaches, all the 16 squads, including defending champions India have been in the UAE playing warm up matches.

In the practice mach, Scotland won the toss and chose to bat first against Afghanistan, losing all wickets for 140 runs in the 47th over, the Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Farid Hotak said Ziaur Rahman, Hashmatullah Shaheedi and Muslim Musa clinched two wickets each and Farid Malik, Syed Shehzad, Abdullah Adil and Sharafuddin Ashraf secured one wicket apiece.

The Afghans chased the 141 runs target in the 40th over for the loss of seven wickets, with Shaheedi contributing 42 runs, followed by Nasir Ahmadzai with 32 and Wahidullah with 15.

The victory comes a day after Afghanistan were defeated in a similar friendly match by the West Indies at Oval ground 2.

Afghanistan will take on Bangladesh on Saturday, Australia on Sunday and Namibia on Tuesday in the showdown.
