PUL-E-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Under heavy insurgents’ threat, locals have secured the highly sensitive polling stations in Burka district of northern Baghlan province and they demanded launching of presidential campaign in the district.

Nazar Mohammad, a local of the district, said people of his locality had worked out stringent security measures with the cooperation of police and there were no security concerns for elections campaign.

“Earlier, illegal armed group and Taliban remnants were harassing locals. Finally, we decided not to allow any group or saboteur to disrupt the security during the pols,” he added.

He said another polling station was facing security threat in this district but that would be secured soon.

Around 30,000 families were living in the district, with 40,000 individuals were eligible to vote but elections campaign could not be launched so far in the district.

Amanullah Habibi, director provincial election commission, said a public awareness team would soon be sent to the district in connection of elections.

Abdul Majid, district police chief, his force would ensure security of another district so that proper canvassing could be launched by the candidates.
