KABUL Cup match in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday, an official said.
Electing to first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the national side posted a total of 253 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Mohammad Mujtaba (75), Ihsanullah (63) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (57) were principal contributors to Afghanistan’s total — and 36-run triumph at that.
JJ Bazley and C Valente were the picks of Australian bowlers, capturing three wickets apiece. B Stanlake, TD Andrews and MW Short had to be content with one wicket each.
Abdullah Adil and Sharafuddin Ashraf shone with the ball for Afghanistan, dismissing four and three opposition batsmen respectively. Shahid and Muslim Musa claimed one wicket each.
Bazley smashed an unbeaten 54, Jorgan 47 and J Doran 45, but could not save Australia from defeat. D. Mortimer also batted well, but the Aussies were restricted to 217.
